Today, TouchstoneEnergy announces that African-focused renewable energy company Serengeti Energy went live with Hexagon Enterprise Asset Management (HxGN EAM).

TouchstoneEnergy and Serengeti Energy embarked on a continuation of their digital transformation journey to implement HxGN EAM in late 2022. The key objectives of the project were to computerise equipment records, standardise maintenance procedures, streamline work order management through the use of EAM and introduce better supply-chain and inventory controls.

Serengeti Energy has 53MW operational capacity in 8 operating power plants and a further 21MW under construction across 5 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. HxGN EAM is currently supporting the Stortemelk and Merino Hydro Electric Power Plants in South Africa and will be extended in the coming months to manage seven other operating power plants with varying types of assets including Solar PV and Hydro, over the coming year.

Henk Hattingh, General Manager O&M, Serengeti Energy – South Africa comments:

We are pleased to have gone live with our EAM system. With the rapid growth our company is experiencing, HxGN EAM will enable us to adopt best practice maintenance planning, preventive and corrective maintenance procedures, and flexible integration with our Finance Management System. We can now record, maintain, and standardise our asset information and reporting. We can also capture the identity, configuration, and structure of each physical asset, their complete technical and commercial configuration, position and maintenance history. This is something we couldn’t do previously on a single platform.

John Ndegwa, Group Operations Manager for Serengeti Energy added:

TouchstoneEnergy, our chosen implementation partners have delivered an outstanding service and we are looking forward to working with them whilst we continue our HxGN EAM journey.

Sarah Davis, Professional Services Manager for TouchstoneEnergy comments:

This has been an exciting project for TouchstoneEnergy. I am a huge fan of Renewable Energy technology; and to see it first hand being delivered into Sub-Saharan Africa shows just how critical it is to keep up with the investment in R&D. The Serengeti Energy team have worked closely our Team – engaging in ‘best practice’ discussions; collecting equipment data; training key users and seamlessly adopting the new digital processes. The Touchtone Team has been on site to deliver training (never complaining once about SA being colder than the UK at the time!). We are really looking forward to the rollout of the remaining sites over the coming year.

About Serengeti Energy
Serengeti Energy develops and operates renewable energy power plants across Sub-Saharan Africa. Where previously Serengeti Energy were focused on hydro-power technology, they are now venturing into solar and wind energy technologies. Serengeti Energy commissioned Sierra Leone’s first commercial grid-connected Solar PV plant in 2022 and is in the cusp of commissioning a 21MWp solar power plant in Malawi. It is Serengeti Energy’s goal to have 300MW of capacity in construction or operation by 2030. Their in-house highly qualified O&M team manages their assets from commercial operation date (COD) up to the expiry of the project power purchase agreement (PPA). Serengeti Energy currently have 8 operational plants in 4 countries: 3 hydro-power plants in South Africa, 3 hydro-power plants in Uganda, 1 hydro-power plant in Rwanda and 1 Solar PV plant in Sierra Leone, with a total capacity of 53MW.
